In these “modern” times there seems to be an overwhelming urge to divide American society-culture into divisive elements rather than regard it as in integrated whole.

Let’s dive a little deeper.

Think of these divisions:

Economists want to talk about the lower, middle and upper classes.

Racially and ethnicity-inclined folks want to talk about black, white, brown, yellow and whatever shade of skin you care to conjure up. Oh, and toss in point of origin issues — just pick a continent, country or wherever.

Those who think in political terms (tinged maybe a little with economic perspectives) want to label people as Liberal, Conservative, Progressive, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Marxist, Socialist, Capitalist, Communist or some odd blend.

People of a religious bent will want to categorize their fellow humans as Islamic, Christian, Judaic, Hindi, Buddhist, Jainist and, well, just pick a system of belief. They will also divide people into believers and disbelievers, and maybe toss in agnostics.

There are those who divide humans between gifted versus non-gifted. If you can you sing, play a musical instrument, juggle, dance, memorize vast amounts of text, run fast, jump high or whatever then you are gifted. If you can’t do any of these things, well, bummer for you. The basic notion is that there are those that are naturally gifted and those that are not.

Which leads to the next divisive element in society/culture — those with resources and those without. Throughout history people (human and bestial) with resources have always held a low opinion of their fellow humans. Ask yourself why there are so many names for the “common” people – we are the vulgars, hoi polloi, unwashed masses, rabble, horde, proles, plebs, riffraff, dregs of society, the deplorables, vermin, permanent underclass, scum of the earth, and I think you see my point.

There are those in society that want to divide people into male, female, trans-gender, gender-fluid and so on. This is on top of the ongoing male-female dialectic which seems to be perpetual.

I could go on and on, but I am sure you get the point and can think of many more examples on your own. Lots of division. However, and this is very important — all of these divisions can be coalesced and boiled down into a simple framework.

Human versus beast.

Let’s examine these two aspects of life.

Authentic humans exhibit all of the positive traits of life:

Courage (strength/endurance)
Concentration (focus)
Cooperation (coordination)
Perseverance (persistence)
Industriousness (self-reliance)
Trust (confidence)
Beneficence (charity)
Dedication (commitment)
Loyalty (devotion)
Discipline (self-control)
Generosity (kindness)
Forgiveness (mercy)
Forbearance (restraint)
Self-responsibility (reliability)
Equanimity (calm)
Righteousness (justice)
Discernment (prudence)
Empathy (kindness)
Honesty (truthfulness)
Love (compassion)

Beasts, however, are different. They think only of themselves (narcissism), have no remorse for their actions (sociopathic), and will do anything to further their selfish ideas and achieve their goals (psychopathic).

A person’s first reaction to all of this is generally to say this is about intelligence. Humans have intelligence and beasts are stupid. Period. End. Of. Story.

Wrong.

The scary fact is that many of the beasts are intelligent. That’s the very dangerous part, and warnings about that are very ancient — you can read more at –>

Another disturbing aspect is that the basic concepts that beasts have about themselves and the world constitute a very challenging adaptive strategy that is difficult to deal with, For more on that read this –>

Here is the great big elephant in the room: are beasts the way they are from Nature (genetics) or are they created by the society (Nurture)? If you take an unbiased look at news, entertainment, social media, educational content and such over the last 50 years plus, the inescapable conclusion is that we are not creating humans, we are churning out beasts. Exposure to the contents of the digital world has altered the chemistry and structure of human minds resulting in bestial behavior.

A vizier to an ancient Egyptian pharaoh (think 4000 years plus ago) wrote that “No one is born wise.” We see an increasing number of beasts in America (and the world) because such creatures are being conditioned and created. The question you have to stop and ponder is why. Why are we not properly educating, training and fostering good experiences for our youth?

Divide et impera.

This ancient Roman saying was a strategy of Julius Caesar — it means to “divide and conquer” and when the American citizenry is riddled with divisiveness and discord, they cannot unite to achieve truly meaningful things. Plus — and this is probably the most disturbing part — there are groups, entities, organizations, companies and others who seek to play both ends against the middle and make money from the constant antagonism between left, right and center.

Until we can agree on what makes a good human (see traits list above) and understand how beasts are created, we will continue to face hurdles in creating unity and happiness. Before things disintegrate to a point where it cannot be mended, humans need to seek out areas of agreement, strive to eliminate disinformation, propaganda and indoctrination techniques, look to agree on what traits an authentic human should have and endorse goals and purposes that have a common ground for all people.

Truthfully, it is the same dilemma that humans have faced since, well, forever. Sometimes it works out great and sometimes, well, it involves a great deal of death and destruction.

They say patience is a virtue, but waiting for results without attempting to actively remedy the situation will only further increase the possibility of conflict.

Humans must strive to join together and cooperate in an ongoing struggle to either convert the beasts to humans (possible, but difficult) or be prepared to battle those who refuse, or cannot become, human.

That’s just the way it is and the sooner we understand that the sooner we can begin building for a positive future.
