With the incessant and usually mindless banter arising from all parts of society and culture concerning human behavior, it was with great interest that I received a note from a good friend of mine about a book he recently wrote.

The topic is about consciousness, specifically human consciousness, and if we ponder the disruptive environment noted in the paragraph above and then toss in the rapid changes in machine intelligence the subject of consciousness of very apropos.

My friend’s book talks in great detail about the triadic-triune-threefold nature of human life. In Chapter One he highlights just a few of these human triads:

Mind, Body, Soul • Physical, Emotional/Social, Rational/Mental • Love, Truth, Power • Heart, Soul, Might • Reptilian, Mammalian, Human • Creator, Preserver, Destroyer • Karma, Jnana, Bhakti • Goodness, Passion, Ignorance • Sat-Chit-Ananda • Ammara, Lawwama, Mutma’inna • Father, Son, Holy Ghost • Osiris, Isis, Horus • Tamas, Raja, Sattva • AUM • Sikkha: Mind, Virtue, Wisdom • Epithumetikon, Thumoeides, Logistikon • Memory, Intelligence, Will • Jism, Nafs, Rooh • Subjective Spirit, Objective Spirit, Absolute Spirit • Executive, Judicial, Legislative • Heteronymous, Autonomous, Theonomous • Think, Will, Become • Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds, and on and on and on…

A truly authentic life involves taking ourselves living at these three levels (and not getting trapped at any one level) and merging them into a synthesis from which emerges understanding and virtue — the true spirituality of genuine wisdom.

As I read my friend’s excellent book it soon became apparent to me that humans are approaching a critical crossroads where our threefold nature is not properly understood. Most people fail to understand the importance of appreciating and melding our physical, social and mental worlds into a truly spiritual integration from which that genuine wisdom can arise.
